Like today's cowboys who deplore the vanishing Alberta landscape as fences and urban expansion replace the prairie grasslands, southern Alberta illustrative artist Edward Frederick Hagell [1895-1964], made the same lament in the mid-20th century. His art and social commentary reflects the landscape and the people, including the cowboy, who lived and worked on the land.
