If you plan to attend the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede in July, First Nations traditions are showcased at the Indian Village. The Stampede Parade which launches our 10-day whoop-up is one of the best opportunities to see members of the various nations on horseback in full regalia—beautifully beaded buckskins, feathered headresses, brightly woven horse blankets, even the horses manes and tails have been braided with colourful ribbons.Traditional native dancers perform at the Stampede and at a variey of special events throughout the area. If you've never seen the intricate steps and perfect balance required in hoop dancing, you're in for a thrill.
Heritage Park Historical Village celebrates Treaty 7 First Nations with a 5 and 10 kilometer run in June followed by a cross-cultural interative celebration featuring native dancing, a mini-pow wow and tipi building. Hands-on activities make it fun for the whole family.
Visit the Glenbow Museum's extensive collection of art and artifacts on the history of western Canada. Wander through the Blackfoot Gallery to see what life was like in the early days.
