Castor

 Valley Ski Club is a perfect family ski hill with runs for the beginner to advanced skier. It's a great place to brush up your skills before heading to the big mountain resorts in the Rockies. Ski and snowboard lessons are available. For details, call 780-879-2106.

Cold Lake

French Bay Provincial Recreation Area, a popular summer recreation spot, offers a ski complex in the winter season. Located next to Cold Lake Provincial Park, the area is used by alpine and telemark skiiers and snowboarders. For more information, call 780-639-3341.

Ponoka

Medicine Lodge ski hill is usually open by early December and offers terrain for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. It has 10 runs and a vertical rise of  137 m (450 ft). For snow conditions and directions, call 403-748-2025.

Red Deer

Canyon Ski Area, near Red Deer, is Alberta's largest ski area outside the Rockies. The facility offers instruction packages in both skiing and snowboarding for all ages. Runs range from beginner to expert.
