Weekend Cross Country Ski in Athabasca Country! 

With 17.5 km (~11 mi) of groomed trails, the hilly terrain in the Muskeg Creek Valley offers cross country skiers (Nordic or skate) and snowshoe enthusiasts a fun filled challenge.

The diversity of the terrain is ideal for skiers of all abilities with loops from 1 to 10 km (0.62 - 6.2 mi).  The Muskeg Creek trails are recognized as fit for provincial ski competitions.  One-and-a-half kilometers of trail are lit for nighttime skiing, and outhouse facilities are available at the trailhead near Landing Trail Intermediate School. Contact Athabasca Regional Recreation for maps, or to borrow a key for the log chalet.

Tawatinaw Valley  is an easy-to-reach haven for winter sport enthusiasts. Located only 70 km (4.3 mi) north of Edmonton on Highway 2, the hill has twenty-four runs for downhill skiers and snowboarders of all levels and abilities. You can choose from any of the 24 runs to get back down to the bottom. For the snowboarder in you, there is a terrain course, and half-pipe . Snow and ski rentals are available, in addition to lessons.   After testing your skills on 25 km (15.5 mi) of groomed cross-country ski trails over flat and valley terrain, get ready to relax and share a good meal at the Chalet.

Wait, there's more!  Located south of the Village of Boyle off Hwy 831, adjacent to Long Lake Provincial ParkLong Lake Ski Hill has 12 downhill runs, a great tobogganing area, rentals, and lessons. Bring your groups! The hill has a chalet  to share and well developed cross country ski trails. You'll find the lift lines are short and smiles contagious. In the summer the facilities are available for weddings and family reunions.  

Amenities & Events

All major ski resorts in Alberta offer snow school programs, first-track programs, daycare, food services, day lockers, free ski host tours and evening torchlight runs. There’s plenty of room for skiers and boarders—spines, table tops, quarter pipes, jumps, berms and banks are standard fare. Weekend races, demo days and festivals abound.
